We’ve climbed sand dunes. Conversed with scientists, Lords, Olympic medal winners and arctic explorers. We’ve danced with polar bears. Crafted a Phoenix. Created Huxley Hound. Curated heaps of content for Snaffling Pig. And undertaken shoots in the most diverse locations – from launch boats in the Mediterranean to inside some of the most beautiful houses in the UK. So as the year ends, we hope you can take a few moments to read all about the goings on inside our creative world. We like to think its what makes us tick – always learning, always sharing, always experiencing.
We kicked off 2017 with two meetings that would shape our year – discussing how we could redefine a pharmaceutical group, and the second resulted in us building a trusted inner circle for one of the most respected names in property. We travelled to the Steel City to photograph the team that manufacture some of the key the products at the heart of the oil, gas and power industries around the world.
We went Beyond The Numbers with one of the UKs leading accountancy firms. We brainstormed first thoughts on how we could revolutionise the largest global event dedicated to brand marketers. And we ended the month presenting our new vision for a dynamic pharmaceutical logistics firm.
In February, our production team created some dynamic content for some of the world’s best known retail & beauty brands. We also learned to understand the ‘power of patience’ at the Debenhams still-life photoshoot, for their new range of ‘Faith’ shoes and bags. The best things come to those that wait…and rearrange…and balance…and rearrange again it would seem!
We had our first meeting with one of Europe’s leading employee benefits providers, whilst helping to define the future of start-ups’ funding with an innovative venture capital business. In crafting a perfect night’s sleep, we produced a beautiful brochure for mattress brand Hyde&Sleep. And in an ongoing collaboration with the governing body of illustrators – The AOI – our first article was published in their quarterly publication ‘Varoom’.
Early in March, we woke before sunrise and drove to Surrey, England to photograph some very beautiful people in a mansion of epic proportions. We celebrated the launch of a cricket brand that has been Centuries in the Making. And in Brooklyn, we collected our New York Design Award for our rebrand of JEGI / Clarity.
We helped the Mosaic Pub & Dining Group open two more sites in London – The Depot on Caledonian Road and Arthurs in Richmond. The world got a little bit hotter as The Snaffling Pig Co launched their Ham & Coleman’s Mustard flavoured pork crackling. We took the sport of Pentathlon to the masses with the creation of the Laser Run concept. And a mammoth commission led to us creating a whole world of illustrated assets for one of the world’s leading media companies.
As April began, we spent a day shooting behind-the-scenes at the place where Dreams are made. At a recording studio in central London, Jemma took part in her first ever voiceover session for a new brand engagement film. All the while, Dan and Adam spent a day green screen filming a clients’ key employees in a series of stakeholder interviews. We began working with the incredibly talented Ben The Illustrator, to craft the master UNUMverse.
Shooting in Sebastian, Florida with US photographer Josh Letchworth, we created a powerful set of portrait images for the Phoenix Is Rising charity. In the same week, the strategic team began to shape a scientific brand that has been 40 years in the making.
As April morphed into May, we were putting the finishing touches to a new animated brand film for one of the UK’s leading employee benefits providers. Dan pulled the first WL all-nighter on that one. We welcomed Romero and Charlotte into the We Launch fold. One a juice-guzzling Gooner and the other a Salsa dancing lover. Guess which one’s which the next time you pop into the Launch Pad…
We spent a delightful afternoon soaking up the work of David Hockney at the Tate as the first printer proofs of the Savills Sports & Entertainment brochure arrived in the studio. With Design Week, we listened and learned about how IKEA target millennials and design for the modern, young urbanite.
From Hertfordshire to Kent, we saw three big new openings for Mosaic Pub & Dining in June. At one of their pubs in North London, the We Launch team challenged ourselves to cryptically escape the Handmade Mysteries at the Depot. A very excited Charlotte saw her Meat & Heat packaging – her first designs for The Snaffling Pig Co. – go to print. Matt and Rachel helped one of the world’s foremost event organisers celebrate their greatest assets at their EPICs Awards.
Team We Launch once again took part in the Rusty Rally through some of the most beautiful driving roads in Europe. An epic challenge that saw us drive through five countries in three days, using a car worth less than £500. As a proud partner, we marked the achievements of GBs best Bobsleigh & Skeleton athletes at the BBSA Athlete Awards Dinner in London. We had a brilliant day at The Boodles tennis event at Stoke Park, regardless of the inclement weather. The highlight was the match between Thanasi Kokkinakis and Gilles Simon.
Shining a light on some illuminating voyages, we had our very first meeting with one of the world’s largest travel operators. A meeting that would form a huge part of our 2017.
As Katie put the finishing touches to the big new pork crackling Advent Calendars, she was particularly chuffed to see all of her packaging designs for the new Snaffling Pig ‘Crackling Crumb’ product hit the shelves of UK supermarkets. One week later, and beating some illustrious competition, The Snaffling Pig Co. were proudly announced as the winners of the 2017 Virgin Foodpreneur award.
Across the Atlantic, the new Phoenix Is Rising website went live – providing a voice for US military veterans living with post-traumatic stress. And for the very last time, we saw Tom Petty play live in Hyde Park.
We had the first kickoff session with our second Dragon’s Den brand. In Warwick, we helped Mosaic Pub & Dining open yet another new site – the beautifully restored Old Coffee Tavern. And back in London we created two new sub-brands for one of the UKs largest bed manufacturers.
Matt & Stu flew out to Augsburg in Germany with the photographer Igor Emmerich to capture scientists in their natural habitat. We crafted a whole new suite of icons for an innovative new financial services business. A great evening saw us visiting Lords Cricket Ground for the final of the NatWest T20 Blast, and we ventured back to the Queen Elizabeth Stadium in London for the World Athletics Championships.
After a frenetic 4 weeks – Katie, Olly, Romero and Rachel worked super hard to launch the all new Huxley Hound website just in time for the brands’ appearance on BBCs Dragon’s Den. Watching the website hits increase rapidly on the night of the broadcast was a pretty proud moment.
Keeping up the momentum, we began work to redefine a new proposition for a much loved British holiday brand, and launched the new brand for Dr Ehrenstorfer – the world’s leading producer of organic reference materials.
An epic team night out at Flight Club in central London saw us wave goodbye to Jemma and introduce Ellie to the team.
September started in the most magical way as Olly and Nina got married! Whilst they headed off on honeymoon, we ventured to Hampshire in England with the fantastic portrait photographer Alun Callendar to shoot a group of property experts in the most refined location. The bold new Huxley Hound packaging went to print as we welcomed Paul Bailey as our new Strategy Director.
In Romero’s words “Paul is great – I have picked up so much from listening to him speak. He has helped me understand brands a lot more, and how to build ideas that really resonate with audiences.”
Stu travelled the length of Chile – from the deserts of the Atacama to the icebergs of Patagonia. Back in the studio, the team began work on the all new Indytute website – exciting everyone with Brilliantly Inspired Experiences.
We visited the new Design Museum to be inspired by the California: Designing Freedom exhibition. In the same week, we kicked off the second brand creation project for a leading pharmaceutical group. AND THEN the brand new We Launch website went live.
The Indytute website launched with a MASSIVE fanfare. The following day, Stu spoke at The Festival of Marketing at Tobacco Dock in London, telling of the importance of creating a clear and consistent tone of voice within the Food & Beverage industry. To coincide with the event, we asked some leading names to respond to the question > ‘What one lesson do you have for shaping a brand in the future?’ There’s still time to add your own voice to the debate.
Whilst Ellie went to her first ever voiceover recording session, Charlotte learned to take her first professional photography shots in creating some vibrant branded content for The Snaffling Pig Co. In the same week, our beautiful new logo for The Running Horse pub in Aldgate – the latest Mosaic Pub & Dining Group site – was released. What a tasty launch party that was!
As the month drew to a close, we presented the creative concepts for a new travel & tourism business – showing an established brand how to flex a tight guideline system so that it works more dynamically.
Rachel and Dan flew out to The Canary Islands with photographer Igor Emmerich to create a suite of brand images for TUI & Marella Cruises on the shining Mediterranean seas. In an epic week of firsts, the team travelled to four countries in four days, fell in love with Captain Jason, and rode in a high speed launch boat at sunset. Here’s some behind-the-scenes footage of their adventures >
Our client team building evening saw us break records at Urban Golf…and burst eardrums at Lucky Voice karaoke.
Reinventing Cool Runnings – our new brand identity for the Hottest Team on Ice, Jamaica Bobsleigh & Skeleton, was approved – ahead of its appearance in Pyeongchang at the Winter Olympic Games 2018. The full reveal of the new logo will be early in 2018.
And quite proudly, November ended with We Launch being named one of the Top 100 brand consultancies in the UK by Design Week.
The month of December proved to be just as busy as every other month. In property, we channelled our inner Slim Aarons as we shot a new group portrait for the Savills team in a luxury apartment overlooking the River Thames in London. We also developed a new visual identity for one of the leading names in Property Auctions. In the world of Health & Wellbeing we presented the first brand concepts for a new women’s holistic health centre at its beautiful new space on Harley Street. In sport, we had an incredibly full few weeks creating new brand identities for some of the leading mass participation running, cycling and triathlon events in the UK.
We headed east to Brick Lane for our Christmas party – venturing into the neon-lit wilderness of Junkyard Golf, where Stu scored the first hole-in-one – but Dan and Matt shared the honours at the end of the evening. Adam bluffed his way to joint second place, alongside Olly. And we began our hunt for a bright, energetic and fearlessly creative Junior Designer. Who will it be??
As 2017 draws to a close, we reflect on our busiest year ever. In total, we worked on:
Here’s to 2018 – we can’t wait to get started.
